CB Antennas

For millions of Americans, CB or citizens band radio provides their link to civilization while on the road. While not as popular as it was thirty years ago, it still offers comfort to those who find themselves traveling in unfamiliar territory. For the best reception, it's important to have a good CB antenna. Whether it's just a mag-mount on the roof of your car or a comprehensive array mounted to your eighteen wheeler, a quality CB antenna installed correctly will extend your radio's range by at least several miles.

CB antennas come in several varieties. Since citizens band frequencies are relatively low, right around 27 MHz, most aerials are quite large compared to cellular or other types of antennas. Several manufacturers offer quality antennas including Wilson, Firestick, and Diamond.

Although it's essential to have a properly installed CB antenna, you should not use a CB linear amplifier. Sometimes unscrupulous truck stops may try to sell you these devices which can increase your transmit power from four watts to several hundred (or more). These devices are not legal and could potentially interfere with other communications systems. The best way to improve your signal is to make sure you have the best antenna mounted properly.

If you are handy with a screwdriver, most CB antennas can be installed in just a few minutes. Magnetic mount versions don't require any installation at all. There are several online antenna vendors who offer CB products at very competitive prices.
